WFAA News 8 Daybreak Makes Early Morning Stop in Lancaster ISD

On Friday, October 29, 2021, Lancaster ISD kicked off the WFAA News 8 Party on the Plaza: On the Road segment on their Daybreak show at the Lancaster High School indoor facility. Lancaster ISD school board members, administrators, teachers, coaches, and students had a call time of 4:40 am to be featured throughout segments of the morning show from 5:00 am until 7:15 am.

“The Daybreak show producer pitched the idea of featuring our district during the Party on the Plaza: On the Road segment, and I knew right away it would be a great event,” Lancaster ISD Chief of Communications Kimberly Simpson said. “Despite the early morning obligation, everyone was on board to take part in the opportunity to showcase our students and supportive community. I believe that’s one of the greatest things about our Lancaster ISD family.”

Student organizations were featured throughout the newscasts, including the marching band, choir, student council, journalism, boys and girls basketball teams, volleyball, track, and football.  Additionally, the Lancaster ISD Board President Marion Hamilton and Board Secretary Carolyn Ann Morris were in attendance. The City of Lancaster Mayor Clyde Hairston and city council members Carol Strain-Burke, Keithsha Wheaton, Betty Gooden-Davis, and City Manager Opal Mauldin-Jones joined in on the fun as well.

News 8 Daybreak anchor Marc Istook interviewed School Board President Marion Hamilton, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Katrise Perera, Chief Communications Officer Kimberly Simpson, and several student organization leaders during the live segments. All students were on full display, with the cheerleaders, band, choir, and drill team performing live during the morning show.

Simpson believes the early morning event was a great way to highlight Lancaster ISD.

“This morning, the DFW metroplex received a glimpse into the wonderful world of Lancaster ISD,” she said. “As always, we are grateful for the opportunity to highlight our district and showcase our wonderful students and district.”
