To showcase the academic achievements of Lancaster ISD STEM students, the district will host its annual STEM Expo. The event is back in person this year after being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19 and going virtual in 2021. The STEM Expo is Saturday, May 21, 2022, from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at Lancaster High School.
“We are thrilled to be back in person for our STEM Expo this year,” said LaTasha Murry, STEM Lead & Secondary Math Content Coordinator for Lancaster ISD. “We have been preparing all year and couldn’t be more excited to present our students’ work to the community. The expo will be interactive and engaging for all.”
The STEM Expo will showcase the students’ achievements in their courses by providing an opportunity to present their problem-based learning projects. In addition, some students will participate in timed design challenges, which will test their ability to build a design out of provided materials. Attendees will also have the chance to join in on the fun with several interactive STEM games and activities.
The expo will include live science experiment demonstrations and additional interactive activities provided by the Frontiers of Flight Museum. The Lancaster ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) department will showcase projects from Health Science, Robotics, Drone Technology, AV, and Cosmetology programs. In addition, LHS Journalism students will host a live podcast during the event.
“After participating in this year’s STEM Expo, I hope that our students leave with a sense of pride about their amazing accomplishments this year,” said Murry. “We also want to instill a sense of pride in the community. Lancaster ISD is engaging students academically in non-traditional ways. We’re equipping our students with the tools to be more competitive while developing critical thinkers and problem solvers through our innovative teaching methods.”
