July 2, 2025, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX - As summer break continues, Lancaster ISD students are staying active by participating in the athletic summer camps. Most recently, students enjoyed a week of soccer summer camp fun at Lancaster High School. Through kicks and dribbles, students were able to have fun while learning the basics of a very popular sport.

In its first year, the soccer camp welcomed third through sixth grade students inside Lancaster High School’s indoor field. Participants were coached by high school players and coaches, giving them first hand exposure to the inner workings of the LHS soccer program. Additionally, these young aspiring athletes had the opportunity to meet members of the varsity girls and boys soccer teams, while also connecting with fellow Lancaster ISD students who share an interest in the sport.

“We had a discussion last year about building a team from the ground up. I’m hoping to generate some interest in soccer starting with elementary to create a pipeline for our high school team,” said head boys soccer coach Fortune Kacou.

The soccer camp was created to spark early interest in the sport and give students more time to develop their skills before high school. Since the camp’s launch, Coach Kacou’s vision has begun to take shape. Students are forming relationships with the soccer staff and gaining valuable knowledge to support their growth in the game.

“My favorite part was running to the cones, playing with my friends, and breaking a sweat,” Lancaster ISD fifth grader Mason expressed. “I am ready to learn everything and I am ready for soccer shooting and our scrimmages.”

The weeklong camp not osoccer campnly sharpened players’ skills but also marked a strategic step in building a stronger soccer program across Lancaster ISD.
