June 12, 2025, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX -- Lancaster ISD is continuing its summer fun and student engagement with the launch of its new baseball and softball camps. Students literally got into the swing of things as they learned the basics of the sports in a fun and exciting environment.

Lancaster High School’s brand-new baseball and softball fields, installed in the spring of 2024, completely transformed the playing surfaces from dirt to turf. These new fields not only improved play during the season but also allowed the programs to expand their reach by hosting summer camps for Lancaster ISD students.

Both the softball and baseball head coaches are focused on setting strong foundations that students can build on as they progress in the sport.

“Baseball is just all about fundamentals. We're just trying to give them basic fundamentals to get them started,” said head baseball coach Malcolm Walker.

The skills and knowledge gained at this camp will prepare the third through sixth graders to play at the high school level and beyond.

“The goal I have is that these young ladies continue to come back, continue to learn a lot of lessons from some of the great coaches that are out here. Hopefully one day, they become one of my own Lady Tiger softball players,” said head softball coach Rachel Walton.

To help with the camp, current LHS baseball and softball players volunteered as camp leaders to inspire the future Tigers and share their knowledge of the game with the younger students.

“One thing I like is helping the younger kids and getting to know them, knowing what they like to do, what they want to learn, and just being there to help them with it,” said Lancaster softball shortstop and second baseman Kelsea Patton.

The young students truly admire the high school players and enjoy learning from them by watching and working alongside them.

“I like that we get to do different skill sets and work with the older girls,” said fourth-grader Fatimah A.

The excitement from the campers aligns with the excitement around the opening of Lancaster ISD’s baseball and softball fields this school year. It has created positive momentum for the baseball and softball programs and summer camps, and this momentum will continue to grow as each program develops throughout the school year. With new facilities, dedicated coaches, and inspiring high school mentors, the future of Lancaster ISD baseball and softball looks bright.
