Special Beauty Fashion Show

April 30, 2026, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX -- Hair, makeup, fashion, and confidence took center stage as Lancaster ISD students stepped on a stage and into a spotlight designed just for them.

The Lancaster ISD Special Education Department created that spotlight and a meaningful event centered on inclusion, celebration, and joy as students kicked off prom season in a way that was truly their own. This year, the experience was elevated with the district’s first Special Beauty Fashion Show, giving students the opportunity to shine in front of their families, peers, and community.

The event came to life through a partnership with Special Beauty, founded by Jason Hancock. The organization, which began in Japan in 2017, is built on the belief that everyone is beautiful and deserves the chance to be seen and celebrated. That vision made its way to Lancaster ISD through a chance connection in Japan between Hancock and Superintendent Dr. A. K. Perera, creating a one of a kind opportunity for students.

“As a stage actor, I know what it feels like to stand in front of a crowd and hear people cheering you on, and I want everyone to experience that same feeling,” said Hancock. “It’s about being embraced by the lights, the energy, and the applause. It builds confidence and creates a moment where these students can feel truly seen.”

Dr. Perera shared the same sentiment.

“Special Beauty reflects what Lancaster ISD is all about, creating opportunities where every student feels seen, valued, and celebrated,” said Dr. A. K. Perera, Superintendent of Schools. “Watching our students step into that spotlight with confidence and joy is a powerful reminder of the importance of belonging. Moments like this leave a lasting impact not just on our students, but on our entire community.”

Throughout the day, students prepared for their big moment with the support of staff, volunteers, and their peers. They practiced walking the runway, learned how to pose, and built confidence together. Cosmetology students helped with hair and makeup, making sure each participant felt ready to take the stage.

The fashion show followed a pageant style format, where students were introduced as princes, princesses, kings, and queens. Each student walked the runway, showed off their favorite outfit, and shared their dreams with the audience. Every step was met with cheers, applause, and overwhelming support, creating a moment many will never forget.

“I loved getting my hair, makeup, and nails done, and walking on stage to everyone cheering for us,” said LaShawn Randolph. “It made me feel really special.”

As the fashion show concluded, the celebration continued with the district’s annual special education prom, where students carried that same confidence and excitement onto the dance floor.

The evening was carefully planned by volunteers, with prom organizer Roshanda Bonner leading efforts to ensure a seamless experience for students and families. Guests were treated to a full event, including a meal prepared by the Lancaster High School culinary department.

“Events like this are all about our students and giving them a moment to truly shine,” said Crystal Cromer, Executive Director of Special Education. “We want them to feel confident, celebrated, and proud of who they are. Seeing their smiles, their excitement, and the way they support each other reminds us why creating spaces like this matters so much.”

The team effort from faculty and staff was key to ensuring students had the best experience possible.

“We wanted to create an experience where our students felt celebrated from beginning to end,” said Roshanda Bonner, prom organizer. “From the fashion show to the dance floor, every detail was planned with them in mind.”

A highlight of the evening came when Superintendent Perera crowned Keondre Lowery and Sanaa Reed as Prom King and Queen, marking a memorable moment in a night centered on student celebration.

Students filled the dance floor, enjoying time with their peers in an environment designed to support their needs while creating lasting memories.

“I loved seeing them celebrated,” said Carl Butler, teacher. “Watching their smiles and personalities shine so brightly was truly refreshing and made my day.”

Events like this reflect Lancaster ISD’s continued commitment to creating inclusive experiences where every student is supported, valued, and given the opportunity to shine. The district would like to thank its community partners that helped make the event a success, Wash Masters Carwash and the Upsilon Lambda Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha. We thank you for your support of Lancaster ISD students.
