April 1, 2026, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX-- The spirit of unity, perseverance, and celebration filled the air at the 15th Annual Tiger Games Special Olympics Track Meet, as student-athletes from across the region gathered for a day of competition and camaraderie. Hosted by Lancaster ISD, this annual event continues to highlight the abilities and determination of athletes while fostering a sense of community among participating schools.
This year’s Tiger Games welcomed teams from Lancaster, Cedar Hill, Ellis County United, Red Oak, Waxahachie, Ferris, Ennis, and Terrell. Each team arrived ready to compete, support one another, and represent their schools with pride. The event served not only as a track meet, but also as a powerful reminder of inclusion and the importance of creating opportunities for all students to shine.
The opening ceremony kicked off with a parade of athletes, featuring the Lancaster Tiger drumline and varsity cheerleaders, as each team entered the field with pride and excitement.
The ceremony continued with the presentation of the colors by the Lancaster High School JROTC, an invocation from Chief of Student Services Dr. Marcus Jackson, and the Pledge of Allegiance, as well as the Special Olympics Oath, by Lancaster ISD students competing in the event. .
The ceremony also featured remarks from Executive Director of Special Education Crystal Cromer and Superintendent of Schools Dr. A. K. Perera.
Encouraging both athletes and spectators to embrace the spirit of the day, Superintendent of Schools Dr. A. K. Perera reminded the crowd of the deeper impact of the event, saying, “For those of you who are here cheering, I hope that you find inspiration and teamwork, as you watch our young athletes compete.”
One of the most anticipated moments of the morning was the running of the torch. As it made its way around the track, the energy from spectators and participants continued to grow. With the crowd on their feet, Dr. Perera, along with members of the Lancaster ISD Board of Trustees, officially declared, “Let the games begin,” marking the start of a day filled with competition and celebration.
Throughout the meet, athletes participated in a variety of track and field events such as running, throwing, and jumping, showcasing their hard work, skill, and sportsmanship.
Cromer reflected on the impact this event has on the student participants.
“It fills my heart to know that our students are able to compete in these events and that they are able to meet with other peers in the area while showcasing their growth.”
The 15th Annual Tiger Games once again proved to be more than just a sporting event. It was a celebration of ability, inclusion, and the unbreakable spirit of these incredible student-athletes.
