Houston El "B"ee Celebration

September 11, 2025, Lancaster ISD/Lancaster, TX -- Houston Elementary had a big reason to celebrate this week as Lancaster ISD leaders surprised the campus with a special recognition for its outstanding academic growth. The campus earned a B rating and achieved an impressive 23-point increase, marking a significant milestone for students, teachers, and staff.

District administrators, joined by community members, arrived on campus to surprise the Houston Elementary team with a celebration honoring their hard work and dedication. 

“We’re thrilled to celebrate a remarkable 23-point gain and B-rating on the STAAR outcomes,” said Lancaster ISD Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Katrise Perera. “This achievement reflects hard work, dedication, and the power of teamwork. Together, we’re building a brighter future!”

The accomplishHouston El "B"ee Celebrationment reflects a collective effort that includes strong instructional leadership, a focus on student success, and the support of families and the Lancaster ISD community.

Houston Elementary principal, Dr. Daberechi Okafor, expressed pride in the campus’ progress.

“Our campus grew from a 63 to a 86 in just one year and this is testament of all the hard work of our teachers, staff, and students,” said Okafor. “Everybody came together and worked hard to make it possible. We're here to celebrate our staff and our teachers because they truly deserve it and they've worked so hard.”

Houston El "B"ee CelebrationThis accomplishment is not only a testament to Houston Elementary’s hard work, but also an example of the progress happening across Lancaster ISD.

“Houston Elementary’s 23-point growth demonstrates what happens when committed teachers, eager students, supportive families and strong instructional systems come together,” said Lancaster ISD Deputy Superintendent, Dr. Cassandra Barker. “Most importantly, it shows the power of our district-wide commitment to excellence in teaching and learning, as outlined in our strategic vision for student success.”

For the teachers at Houston Elementary, the recognition was both rewarding and motivating.

“I felt elated because that means all our hard work is paying off,” said Houston Elementary teacher Douglas Garrett. “I'm going to keep on doing hard work and keep on striving to be the best every day for myself and for my kids”

With this achievement, Houston Elementary stands as a shining example of Lancaster ISD’s mission to empower students to learn, lead, and roar.
