First Day

August 13, 2025, Lancaster TX/Lancaster ISD -  Lancaster ISD kicked off the 2025-2026 school year in true star-studded fashion with its annual Red Carpet Welcome tradition.

Although the skies were cloudy and gray, campuses across the district transformed into vibrant, high-energy celebrations for the year ahead. Teachers, staff, and community partners lined the red carpets outside school entrances, greeting students with cheers and high-fives that brought extra smiles to students and parents alike.First DaySuperintendent of Schools Dr. A. Katrise Perera visited campuses across the district this morning, personally greeting students as they arrived for the first day of school.

“The first day of school is always one of the most important days for educators. Every bit of planning and preparation our staff put in over the summer leads to this moment, and it’s inspiring to see it all come together,” she shared. “What makes it even more special is standing side by side with our community members to welcome our students back. The smiles, the laughter, and the warm handshakes capture what this day is all about. I am deeply grateful for the community support we see on this day. It truly makes a difference and shows that in Lancaster ISD, we are all in for our students.”

Staff members from different campuses shared the same sentiments.

“This is more than just a first day,” said Lancaster STEM High School Associate Principal, Phillia Stewart. “We want every student to know they are valued and celebrated. The Red Carpet Welcome sets the tone for the entire year. It shows our students that they belong here, they are important, and they are ready to succeed.”

PereraParents also expressed their joy of seeing the massive welcome on the first day of school.

“Seeing the teachers and staff cheering for our kids makes me feel so grateful,” said Lancaster ISD parent, Jazmine Jackson, whose child started kindergarten at West Main Elementary. “It’s such a warm, positive way to start the year.”

From the very first day of kindergarten to the final first day of a student’s senior year, Lancaster ISD has made the return to school a special occasion, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

“From door to door and bell to bell, it has been refreshing to see staff building school culture on day one setting the expectation that we will all lead with purpose, learn with passion and roar with pride,” said Lancaster ISD Deputy Superintendent Dr. Cassandra Barker.Barker

That expectation reflects the district’s ongoing commitment to fostering strong connections between schools, families, and the community. By creating a welcoming, festive environment on the first day, Lancaster ISD encourages student engagement, promotes school pride, and builds excitement for the academic journey ahead. With the continuation of the Red Carpet event, it is clear that all students are ready to learn, lead, and roar.
