This summer, football brought even more excitement to Lancaster ISD’s summer athletic camps. Through drills and passionate coaching, students were able to develop skills and get a taste of high school ball.
The indoor field at Lancaster High School housed the inaugural three-day camp for our third through sixth graders. The camp is helping to bridge the gap between students and their future high school coaches, fostering early relationships and helping young athletes identify where their talents and interests lie.
Making community connections with future students and exposing them to the high school program is what excites Lancaster Head Football Coach Leon Paul the most.
“I think that it’s important for our community to be involved while we intentionally work to make the connection between our campuses and our high school football program,” Paul shared. “With our football camp, our end goal is to keep kids engaged in football and all athletic programs in Lancaster. That is why it’s important to have these camps so that parents and students stay involved.
Assistant high school football coach Gilbert Fears shared the same sentiment.
“The summer camp is a great use of our time during the summer. Our kids come out to learn more about the game of football and leave more enthusiastic about the game than they were previously,” he said.
With community as the foundation of this camp, students have a strong launching pad for their athletic development.
Fifth grader Seth shared what he enjoyed most about the camp.
“I get to do my own thing, get to go against people, and it's kind of fun, he shared.
That competitive spirit filled the indoor field as the athletes embraced each challenge they faced.
With growing confidence and support from coaches and the community, these students are not only discovering their strengths, but they’re also building a foundation for future success on and off the field.
