Lancaster ISD is pleased to announce Yvonne Thornton as the Executive Director of School Leadership and Campus Support. Thornton has served in Lancaster ISD since 2016, with her most recent leadership position being the Principal of Rosa/Parks Millbrook Elementary. Her dedication to closing student achievement and opportunity gaps earned her the Principal of the Year award for the 2021-2022 school year.
"I am honored by the confidence of Dr. Perera, the Lancaster ISD Board, and the Lancaster community in my demonstrated leadership," said Thornton. "I am excited to serve in this new capacity and look forward to joining a phenomenal group of leaders at the district level to continue expanding our leadership capacity and building our scholars academically and socially."
In her new role as Executive Director of School Leadership and Campus Support, Thornton will serve as a bridge between the campuses and central administration to ensure the vision of campus principals can be realized in alignment with the district's vision for student success.

She has shown excellence in school leadership as Principal of Rosa Parks Elementary, and her extensive experience in educational leadership and visionary approach will undoubtedly enhance our district's commitment to excellence. With her guidance, our school leaders will continue to inspire and empower our educators, fostering a culture of continuous growth and success," said Dr. Katrise Perera, Lancaster ISD Superintendent of Schools.
Before transitioning to Principal at Rosa/Parks Millbrook, Thornton served as the Assistant Principal at Belt Line Elementary in Lancaster ISD. In her various roles, Thornton has established foundational systems and protocols to ensure consistent growth in student achievement and professional development of teachers and staff, including coaching and mentoring staff for leadership roles.
Additionally, Thornton has created systems and partnerships to build sustainable campus culture centered around student achievement and community service.
Thornton's academic accomplishments reflect her commitment to lifelong learning and professional growth. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Journalism from Southern University and A&M College. She also holds a Master's degree in Education Administration from Concordia University.
