LANCASTER, Texas -- In a joyful celebration of achievement, the graduating Class of 2023 marked the end of their high school careers with a commencement ceremony on Wednesday, May 24. Proud family and friends gathered at the University of Texas at Arlington College Park Center to witness the momentous occasion as they watched the seniors receive their diplomas and officially become graduates.

A total of 476 seniors graduated during the commencement. District administrators, school board members, the city of Lancaster Mayor, the city manager, and city council members praised the LHS Class of 2023 students, congratulating them on a successful school year. In addition, the graduating seniors are leaving Lancaster High School with more than $16 million in scholarships, thanks to the help of the LHS College and Career Center counselors.

Lancaster High School Associate Principal Shonda Thompson commended the students for their dedication and hard work, stating, "You have shown us what it means to be true leaders, and we are immensely proud of all you have accomplished."

Valedictorian Saphyre Bell delivered an inspiring speech, expressing gratitude to the teachers and parents who supported them on their journey. She urged her fellow graduates to stay focused and determined, saying, "Strive to leave a long-lasting legacy and remember to appreciate the friendships we've made these last four years. We must also appreciate and acknowledge those who guided us to this moment."

Bell also encouraged her fellow graduates to embrace the challenges that come in life and to use the skills and knowledge they've gained to address problems and issues in society they may encounter.

Salutatorian Reed Eastman reflected on the unexpected difficulties of the pandemic. He pointed out that working through the challenges made them stronger, more resilient, and ready to take on the world.

"We are all here today because we never let any difficulties set us back to zero," said Eastman. "The Class of 2023 overcame the obstacles we faced, and now it's time to focus on the future journey to success and strive to achieve our goals and aspirations without hesitation or fear."

As the ceremony closed, the graduates tossed their caps, cheered, and celebrated their accomplishments.

In addition to the graduation celebrations, Lancaster Early College High School seniors had twice as much to celebrate. The 66 students also graduated with their associate's degree from Dallas College Cedar Valley on May 13, 2023.

The Class of 2023 is ready to take on the world, armed with the knowledge, skills, and determination to succeed. Congratulations! The seniors may be leaving Lancaster ISD, but once a Tiger, always a Tiger!
