Lancaster ISD Names New Chief Academic Officer

Lancaster ISD welcomes Dr. Marcus Jackson as its new Chief Academic Officer. In his role, he will supervise the district’s academic division to provide leadership for all academic programs. He will ensure that the development and delivery of the programs are effective and efficient, and supports student achievement.

 “I will focus on quality tier one instruction. Teachers will be equipped with grade-level skills while simultaneously filling in student gaps. Specific training in these areas will be a top priority. My goal is to ensure that Lancaster ISD is a top performing district in Texas.” said Dr. Jackson.

Dr. Jackson previously served as the Director of Curriculum and Instruction at  Calcasieu Parish School Board. He also supports students and professors as an Adjunct Assistant Professor at Clark Atlanta University in the School of Education, Department of Curriculum, Assessment, and Budgeting. He served in several capacities as an educator, including a high school principal, assistant principal, and teacher. His educational background includes graduating with his bachelor’s degrees from Georgia Southwestern State University and Georgia State University. He received his master’s degrees from Georgia College and State University and a doctoral degree from Nova Southeastern University. 

Dr. Jackson is committed to improving the lives of children by helping to create a unified vision for all students focused on providing equal access to high-quality education. He believes his extensive experience in leading professional staff will successfully address challenges and exceed expectations. He understands that collaboration with all stakeholders is a vital component within education, and he is eager to implement his innovative leadership practices. 

 “I am confident that Dr. Jackson will work to successfully raise the bar by analyzing our instructional practices and frameworks. With his broad knowledge and effective experiences of transforming adult learning, both our teachers and students will benefit,” Superintendent Dr. Perera expressed. “Dr. Jackson is a collaborative leader who will work well with our current district leaders to design a cycle of academic excellence for our students. He will be an asset to our team, and together, we will help our students excel towards their path to success.”

Dr. Jackson has received several awards, including the MLK Excellence in Education Award, the Community Outreach Award, and the Pinnacle Leadership Award.  He has also presented at the national, state, and local levels at conferences and workshops on closing the achievement gap.
