Lancaster ISD provides a Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse or a Health Room Assistance on each campus. School nursing is a registered nursing specialty that involves identification, assessment, prevention and intervention to remedy or modify students' health needs. The nurse's goal is to promote the optimum health of students and the students' abilities to achieve their educational goals.
Each nurse monitors required immunizations, mandated health screenings and maintains communications with parents as needed.
Injury & Illness at School
Injuries and illnesses sometimes occur at school. In the event that your child is seriously injured or seriously ill, Lancaster ISD personnel will immediately notify you or your authorized emergency contacts.
Have you provided the school with your updated telephone numbers?
School Nurses provide the following services:
Health Maintenance and Monitoring
Basic First Aid
The school clinic is equipped to provide basic first aid. The clinic aid or nurse will administer only medication supplied by parents in the original container; with a written doctor’s order for prescribed medication and a written parent order to administer over the counter medication, which we will administer for 10 doses. After the tenth dose we need a written order from the doctor to continue administering the medication at school.
Though unexpected health issues are not pleasant, they are unfortunately a reality of life, with this in mind, it is the commitment of the Health Services Department to help every student in the Lancaster Independent School District attain and maintain a maximum level of wellness, and for this we need your support; therefore if your child is being treated by any medical personnel such as doctor, physiotherapist etc. We need a written order from that care giver, with clear instructions for accommodations that are specific to your child’s needs while they are in school as we want every opportunity to help you and your child navigate successfully through any period of sickness or disability.
