| Lancaster Independent School District uses the School Wide Enrichment Model (Renzulli) as the foundation of the Gifted and Talented Program. The premise of the program is that schools are places for “talent development” and the foundational assumption is that “a rising tide lifts all ships.” |
| In addition to the SEM, the needs of GT students are met in the regular classroom, utilizing various models of differentiation. Some of the models include tiered lessons, extension menus, individual lesson plans, enrichment centers, independent study, and mini centers. Using these models, educators are able to provide students with opportunities to study content materials on an advanced level or in an accelerated manner. The goal is keep all students learning, all the time, even when they master the state curriculum quickly or have mastered the curriculum prior to enrolling in a particular course. |
| On the high school level, identified GT students are enrolled in Pre-AP and AP courses, according to their areas of giftedness. Outlines for these courses are prepared by the College Board. This organization also designs and manages the assessment program for the courses. Students who earn a score of 3 or greater on the College Board AP Exams earn credit in many colleges and universities throughout the nation. |
| Gifted students may engage in a variety of enrichment activities, including Academic UIL, Music UIL, Academic Decathlon, The Stock Market Game, content area clubs, and Duke Talent Identification Program. |
